[April 26, 2011]  PLAINFIELD -- Kit Sunderland, through her Sunney Art Center studio, will bring her "traveling" art camp to Lincoln for the week of Aug. 1-5, with sessions from 1 to 4 p.m.  The camp will meet at Jefferson Street Christian Church, 1700 N. Jefferson St.

InsuranceThe art camp is offered to students in first through eighth grade. Each day a new project will introduce the students to a different media. As each project has freedom of creativity, all skill levels are invited.

New this year is the opportunity to order a camp shirt for your student, designed by Sunderland.

2011 is the second year that Sunderland is traveling to various towns offering art camps. Although 2011 will be the third year she has offered art camp in Lincoln, this is the first year that she "travels" to Lincoln, as her studio is now based in Plainfield. The camp will also be offered in Tuscola, Clinton and Plainfield, the new hometown of Sunney Art Center.

Sunderland received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Northern Illinois University, with an emphasis on painting. She began teaching private and group art lessons and selling her work in Lincoln in 1996, with her first juried show being at the Lincoln Art & Balloon Festival. She enjoyed living in Lincoln and opening her studio in Lincoln in 2009, and feels like it has become her second hometown.

Although her family is now living in Plainfield, the Sunderlands enjoy visiting family and friends still in Lincoln area. She is excited to come back, see her old students and enrich the community where she got her start.
