Lincoln College baseball splits with Heartland

[April 30, 2011]  Lincoln College was able come away with a split in the two-game set Thursday against No. 2 Heartland, winning the opener 9-7. The momentum would quickly turn as Heartland would pile on the runs in a 20-2 victory in game two.

In game one, the Lynx trailed 7-3 going into the home half of the sixth but were able to score six runs in the frame to take a 9-7 lead.

Tyler Wallin (Elkhart, Ind.), Brett Freund (Festus, Mo.), Andy Mosier (Lake Orion, Mich.) and Xavier Gomez (Willemstad, Curacao) all pitched in with a multiple-hit game. Ricky Cody (St. Louis) received the win for his flawless relief effort.

In game two, the Hawks racked up 14 runs in the fourth inning alone to cruise to a 20-2 victory against the Lynx. Of the 20 runs given up, only eight were earned, due to four errors by the Lynx defense.

The offensive highlight for the Lynx in game two was a home run by Manny Acevedo (Orlando, Fla.).

The Lynx (16-20, 12-8 MWAC) will travel to Quincy on Saturday for a matchup with John Wood.
