The recipients each received $700 at a meeting of the governing
board of directors of the Community Action Partnership on July 28.
Steve Lobb, board president, and Angela Stoltzenburg, executive
director of the agency, presented the awards. The funds will be used
toward expenses the students incur by continuing their education.
The recipients are chosen by a scholarship committee made up of
members of the agency's governing board.
"It was challenging for the board members to choose the
recipients this year," said Kathy Shepherd, Community Action's
community services director. "All of the applicants were
academically qualified and deserving of this educational grant."
The Department of Commerce and Economic Development made funds
for these scholarships available to income-eligible individuals of
high academic merit or potential. Applicants attend Illinois
colleges and reside in Fulton, DeWitt, Logan, Mason, Menard or Piatt
County, which are Community Action's six-county service area.
Community Action is a private, nonprofit organization that serves
low-income families and seniors in the six-county area with a
variety of services. For more information, visit
