[August 04, 2011]  CHICAGO (AP) -- Sun-Times Media Holdings is among 10 companies that have notified the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity they will lay off workers, starting in September.

The media company, which publishes the Chicago Sun-Times and other newspapers, has told the state it will cut 456 jobs in Chicago late next month through the end of the year. The company announced last month it will cut more than 400 jobs when Chicago Tribune Media Group begins printing its newspapers.

Another media company, Schofield Media Group, is cutting 107 workers in Chicago. The company, which publishes Construction Today, Manufacturing Today and other magazines, is shutting down U.S. operations after losing its bank funding.

In all, more than 1,100 Illinois workers were notified last month they will lose their jobs before the year ends.
