[August 23, 2011]  CARTHAGE, N.C. (AP) -- Professional wrestler Matt Hardy faces a driving while impaired charge in North Carolina after his car hit a tree.

HardwareThe Fayetteville Observer reported Tuesday (http://bit.ly/nl9Zyk) that 36-year-old Hardy ran off a Moore County road in his 2009 Chevrolet Corvette.

Highway Patrol Trooper B.J. Smith said Hardy was not hurt when his car struck a culvert and a tree Saturday afternoon.

Smith says Hardy had not been drinking but appeared to have taken some type of impairing substance and agreed to a blood test. Hardy is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 28.

Hardy formerly wrestled for World Wrestling Entertainment and had also wrestled for Total Nonstop Action. Hardy and his brother Jeff made up a popular pro wrestling team known as the Hardy Boyz.
