[August 23, 2011]  GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John Swofford says it's "disappointing" to see three member schools mired in NCAA troubles.

Swofford says league officials has talked with Miami, where a former booster claims he provided cash, gifts and other improper benefits to athletes over an eight-year period. North Carolina has spent the past year coping with an NCAA probe of improper benefits and academic misconduct. Georgia Tech recently was forced to give back its 2009 ACC championship trophy because of rules violations.

Despite the turmoil, Swofford told The Associated Press Monday he has "a lot of confidence in the people" at ACC institutions to correct any problems.

Though several ACC schools have reportedly considered leaving the conference for leagues pondering expansion, Swofford says members are happy with the current 12-team size.
