[December 03, 2011]  MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Shipping company FedEx says it will increase shipping rates for FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery by a net average of 4.9 percent in January.

The ground and home delivery full average rate increase of 5.9 percent that goes into effect on Jan. 2 will be partially offset by a 1-percentage-point reduction in fuel surcharges. FedEx SmartPost rates also will change.

Memphis, Tenn.-based FedEx Corp. said in September that it would increase FedEx Express shipping rates by an average of 3.9 percent for U.S. domestic, export and import services. That's also effective on Jan. 2.

And FedEx Freight hiked its rates 6.75 percent in September.
