[December 03, 2011]  Patients of Family Medical Center of Lincoln now have easy, free and secure access to their personal health information online, allowing them to schedule appointments, refill prescriptions and receive updates to changes to their health record.

HardwareLaunched Nov. 28, the password-protected patient portal, MyHealth@MemorialMD, "provides a secure way for our patients to manage their health and gives them the opportunity to communicate directly with their physicians' offices," said Paul Kasa, M.D., with Family Medical Center of Lincoln.

Patients can receive reminders about appointments or follow-up care through text messages or emails. They will have access to their lab and radiology results and can review their physicians' notes and their medication lists. If they're traveling, patients can take their health information with them on a flash drive or CD, Dr. Kasa said.

Family Medical Center, 515 N. College St., is part of Memorial Physician Services, which has rolled out the patient portal in most of its physicians' offices in Springfield, Chatham, Jacksonville, Lincoln and Petersburg. An affiliate of Memorial Health System, Memorial Physician Services coordinates more than 260,000 patient visits annually.

The patient portal is a free service. Enrollment is open to patients who are 18 years old or older.

Patients of Memorial Physician Services can sign up for MyHealth@MemorialMD at their physician's office. They will need to bring photo identification, which the receptionist will request to verify their identity. Within five business days, patients will receive an email inviting them to activate their accounts. Once their accounts have been activated, patients can go to MemorialMD.com to log into the patient portal.

"When we looked at patient access at a community level, we wanted a solution that allows our patients one comprehensive view of their health information," said David Graham, M.D., senior vice president and chief information officer for Memorial Health System. "This patient-managed personal health record achieves that, allowing our Memorial Physician Services patients to become more informed and more involved with their health care."

Patients who need more information can call 855-9-MPS-DOC (967-7362) or send an email to MyHealthMemorialMD@mhsil.com.
