 This strong and wet storm will make its way through the eastern third of the country, spreading mostly rain from the Gulf Coast through the Northeast. The heaviest of this rain will fall in New England and the higher elevations of the Appalachians. In the colder air to the east of the storm, some snow showers will fall in western New England and may be enhanced by the relatively warm waters of the Great Lakes.
Dry conditions are anticipated for much of the rest of the country, with the one exception being in the
southern Rockies, where high-elevation morning snow showers will give way to cool, but dry, conditions.
Chilly morning temperatures will continue in California, possibly damaging some crops and plants. This will continue the first significant frost period of the season as temperatures will dip into the 20s in the Central Valley of California.
The Northeast will rise into the 40s and 50s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 60s, 70s and possibly some 80s. The
northern Plains will rise into the 10s and 20s, while the southern Plains will be cool, with temperatures in the 30s and 40s. The Northwest will rise into the 30s and 40s.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Monday ranged from a morning low of
minus 34 degrees at West Yellowstone, Mont., to a high of 122 degrees at Torrance, Calif.
