Junior high students from study hall became helpers for younger students during roller-skating sessions at Chester-East Lincoln.

Skating is tricky business. Sometimes everything goes the wrong direction and reaches a point of no return.

Taking tumbles and falling down are part of learning to skate. Companions can see it coming, but there is nothing to do but wait.

Roller-skaters spent their physical education time rolling around the gym. Newcomers to the sport took advantage of the sessions to try, and try again.

The school rented 90 pairs of skates and dozens of wrist guards. Even with added protection, knees and arms met the wooden floor, but no one was complaining.

At the end of each class, junior high helpers offered assistance to remove the skates and put the younger students back on solid ground.
