[December 17, 2011]  ATLANTA -- Olympia South Elementary School had a "Winter Wonderland" open house Wednesday night to exhibit student artwork and share holiday cheer with parents and families. Hallways were filled with giant paper chains, glittery designs, images of candy and treats, and life-size gingerbread men. Early childhood education and pre-K classes performed in the gym to open the program. The PTO provided refreshments in the cafeteria, and the Atlanta Municipal Band entertained visitors with holiday music.

Stacey Rogers is the principal for over 350 elementary students who attend Olympia South. She was thrilled with the turnout on Wednesday.

"This is a good crowd, and it seems everyone is having a good time," Mrs. Rogers said. "The students and teachers worked hard to complete the artwork and to decorate the halls. I think parents will be surprised at some of the displays. Everything looks so great and it is very creative."

The school building was open from just 6 to 7 p.m., and it was a packed house. Lines moved down one side of a hall and returned on the opposite side, giving everyone an opportunity to view the drawings, artwork and designs that were on the walls, hanging from the ceiling and attached to doors.

Parents and families visited in the cafeteria after finding their students' art displays, and if someone hadn't decorated their house as of that night, they were surely inspired by the displays to go home and begin to hang the lights and tinsel.
