Christmas cantata previews at St. John UCC

[December 19, 2011]  The singers who performed the community's Christmas cantata at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln on Sunday evening provided a preview during the Sunday morning worship service at St. John United Church of Christ.

The program's choral director was the Rev. Rich Reinwald, minister at St. John UCC.

The program, "Do You Hear What I Hear? -- Listening to the Spirit of Christmas," included 15 mostly traditional songs and three solos, by Shelby Voyles, Kim Peterson-Quinn and Fiona Peterson-Quinn. St. John UCC's adult chime choir provided pre-service music and accompaniment. Sue Jones of Trinity Episcopal Church was piano accompanist, and Laura Lee of St. John UCC was the organist.

Narrator was Warren Goetsch, and readers were Bill Gossett and Kim Otte.

Singers for the cantata were from St. John UCC -- Carol Brainard, Verdeen Ingram, Donna Kessinger, Barb Reinwald, Jane Thompson, Carol Webb and Kaye Wilmert; from Immanuel Lutheran -- Diane Campbell, Glenda Downing, Nancy Ireland, Karen Irwin, Bob Jeckel, Norma Knollenberg, Darlene Mangold, Jean Meier, Andrew Nyren, Gene Rohlfs, Phillip Ruch, Carolyn Schreiber, Lois Smith, Carrie Verner, Jamie Voyles, Jill Voyles, Shelby Voyles and Marilyn Weingarz; from Trinity Episcopal -- Jan Dickerson, Bob Field, Adrienne Hahn, Merna Lichtenwalter, Charles Nauts, Fiona Peterson-Quinn, Kim Peterson-Quinn, Sharon Reynolds and Mary Strader; from Lincoln Christian --Brenda Ireland; from Zion Lutheran -- Linda McCuan; from First Baptist -- Lee Westerfield; and from St. John's Lutheran in Hartsburg -- John Aper.

The congregation responded with a standing ovation, and Reinwald said, "They have practiced for seven weeks and deserve recognition for their dedication."
