[December 22, 2011]  PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Police are trying to find out who gave birth to a baby girl found inside a cardboard box on a north Philadelphia sidewalk.

Police say the newborn was found Wednesday morning and was in good condition after she was rushed to a children's hospital.

Lt. Anthony McFadden says it was "very lucky" she was found so quickly by two men doing cleanup on the block.

Police say she was born just hours earlier and her umbilical cord was still attached. They displayed a sweater, towel, blanket and bathrobe found with her. They're asking the public to help locate her mother.

Under Pennsylvania law, parents can drop a newborn at a hospital or other place designated a safe haven without fear of prosecution.
