Daniel Goetsch

[December 30, 2011]  LINCOLN -- Daniel Eugene Goetsch, 64, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at 7:14 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home in Lincoln, with a prayer service following at 7 p.m.

Cremation rites will then be accorded.

Mr. Goetsch was a former police officer for the city of Lincoln and retired from Lincoln Developmental Center, where he was a storekeeper.

He served in the U.S. Army for two terms in Vietnam with the 589th Engineering Battalion from 1966 to 1968. 

He was born June 9, 1947, in Bloomington. His parents were Eugene Clifford Goetsch and Ruby Robbins Hardy. He married Donna L. Donath on March 14, 1969.

He is survived by his wife; two children, Robert E. (and Lisa) Goetsch and William P. Goetsch; three grandchildren, Benjamin, Jonathan and Madison Goetsch; two sisters, Mickey Goff and Joyce Bartlett; and one brother, Ed Hardy.

One brother, Samuel Franz Goetsch, also preceded him in death.

Daniel was a member of the Railsplitter Antique Auto Club. He loved to tinker with cars and was a mechanic in his early years.

He was an avid sportsman who loved fishing, camping and traveling as well as woodworking and participating in many local craft fairs with his wife.

Funeral Directors

He graduated from Robert A Millikan High School in Long Beach, Calif., and attended Long Beach City College.

He earned the Army Commendation Medal for his military service.

He was a true family man at heart and had a deep love for his wife.

Memorial donations may be made in Daniel's name to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or to Holy Family Food Pantry and will be accepted at the funeral home
