[February 05, 2011]  NORMAL -- The massage therapy program at Lincoln College-Normal recently moved to a new, much larger facility. Located off Raab Road, the new facility is adjacent to the main academic building on the Lincoln College campus in Normal.

Despite the day and evening programs offered, demand to enroll in massage therapy studies continued to exceed the capacity of the original facility.

The new location next to the Normal-based campus is 2,500 square feet and boasts larger instructional classroom space, a student lounge, a reception area for clients and guests, and a large practical training area for students to perform massage therapy services. Free parking is available both in front of the new building and at the main LCN campus.

While touring the new facility, program director Sheri Wright said: "We're delighted with the way the space came together. As a teaching facility, it's important to reflect the soothing, therapeutic environment of a modern salon or spa. We've definitely achieved that here. The students tell me the space is inspiring and makes them feel excited about their intended career path, and the clients rave about the comfortable, inviting atmosphere."

Therapeutic massage is a holistic approach to health care that rejuvenates mind, body and spirit. It has been proven to treat and prevent injury, improve circulation, and reduce stress and tension held in the muscle tissues.

LCN offers both full- and part-time study options, as well as day and evening programs in massage therapy. Students can prepare for a career as a massage therapist in only 10 months by completing 660 clock hours of work in the part-time program. Students learn the fundamentals through classroom instruction and gain confidence as they build skills through hands-on experience in a clinical environment.

Because Lincoln College-Normal is a fully accredited institution offering baccalaureate degrees, students can take additional college-level courses, including marketing and business, or pursue an associate or bachelor's degree.

Upon successful completion of the massage therapy program at LCN, students earn a certificate and are able to take the national certification exam to become nationally certified and licensed to practice massage therapy in the state of Illinois.

Enrollment in the massage therapy program at LCN is limited and spaces fill quickly. For more information on enrollment, start dates and to schedule a tour of the facility, contact the admissions office at 800-569-0558 or visit www.lincolncollege.edu/normal.
