Lincoln College knocks out ICC in 2nd half

[February 07, 2011]  The Lincoln College basketball teams played at home Saturday afternoon.

Men's basketball

Lincoln 95 (17-5, 4-1), Illinois Central College 82 (10-10, 0-5)

The Lynx used a second-half spurt to keep ICC winless in the conference. Lincoln was down 64-63 with eight minutes remaining when the Lynx went on an 8-0 run over a one-minute span until ICC called a timeout. Lincoln would outscore ICC 25-9 over next six minutes. Lincoln took a 90-72 lead with two minutes to go and started to substitute the bench players. ICC went to a full-court press at that time to close out the game with a 15-5 run.

Kiel Turpin was limited to only six minutes in the first half due to foul problems, but he came up big in the second half to finish with 27 points. Wes Dawson put together a fine performance also.

Women's basketball

The Lincoln College women's basketball team battled back from 15 points down late in their game with Lewis & Clark to lose 81-79.

Leading scorers for the Lynx were Tonisha Sanders with 20 points and Shay Jackson with 16 points. Phelicia Lewis had 13 rebounds.
