Head Start staff will be at Christian Child Care, 721 Wyatt Ave. in Lincoln, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Feb. 16 to assist in the application process for the current and fall school year.

Community Action Head Start is a federally funded preschool program that serves income-eligible families and children with disabilities between the ages of 3 and 5 years.

Parents are asked to bring the following items to complete an application on Feb. 16:

  • 2009 completed tax forms or W-2

  • Copy of child's birth certificate or medical card

  • Proof of child support (if you receive it)

  • Proof of Social Security, TANF, cash assistance (if you receive it)

Head Start knows that parents are the first and most important teachers of their children. Parents are welcomed as partners in the Head Start preschool experience. Head Start is designed to provide a variety of opportunities that help a child develop socially, intellectually, physically and emotionally in an age-appropriate manner.

Community Action Head Start provides center-based preschool services in Logan County. The program includes a nutritionally balanced meal program, medical and dental examinations, as well as screenings for hearing, vision and speech. In addition to the services received by the child, the staff assists parents in their efforts to improve the quality of life for themselves and their children.

Community Action Head Start is a program of Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois. The agency also offers Early Head Start services to pregnant women and children through age 3.
