[February 16, 2011]  DENVER (AP) -- Teachers and politicians who have vowed to work harder to cooperate are finishing up the nation's first summit promoting collaboration among unions and administrators.

About 150 school districts from 40 states sent teachers, school board members and administrators to Denver to talk about working together. The two-day meeting began Tuesday.

The Obama administration organized the summit and calls it a watershed moment for collaboration in school overhaul efforts.

Education Secretary Arne Duncan told the educators that the nation's schools must do a better job, and that unions and school leaders both have to shed old divisions.

The summit highlighted a dozen school districts where labor and management agreed on reform plans.
