HardwareAreas of the Sierra Nevadas will experience additional snow accumulations of up to 2 feet above the 7,000 foot level and 1 foot above the 5,000 foot level by Thursday morning. Meanwhile, another 4 to 8 inches of snow may accumulate at the 2,500- to 3,000-foot level in the foothills by the early morning. This system will lose significant moisture as it crosses through Great Basin and will only blanket the valleys and mountains with a modest amount of snowfall. Areas along the West Coast will continue to see showery weather for the next couple of days as another batch of rain and snow pushes into the area by the evening.

Fair weather conditions in the Midwest will begin to expire Thursday as the system from the West reaches the northern Plains. Light, scattered rain showers will develop ahead of the system from the northern Plains through the Great Lakes, while wintry weather is expected on the back of the low.

Finally, warm weather conditions will persist across the eastern half of the nation due to strong high pressure overhead.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a morning low of minus 14 degrees at Presque Isle, Maine, to a high of 90 degrees at Guadalupe Pass, Texas.
