Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White's office says court
supervision will now be prohibited for drivers who are ticketed for
speeding 40 mph or more above the speed limit. Motorists who drive
between 30 and 39 mph over the speed limit will be given a
misdemeanor. The new law took effect on Saturday. White says the
new law is necessary because excessive speeding is reckless behavior
"and does not merit court supervision."
