[January 12, 2011]  A digital photography class will start Feb. 1. Stephen Klemm, owner of Picture This Photography, will be the instructor. Classes are designed for the beginner to the intermediate, or anyone interested in using their digital camera to the fullest. The four-week series will have weekly sessions from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The class will open with how to take better photographs. The following weeks will address the best settings for your camera, computer printer and software. Klemm will also cover making calendars, cards and fun, whimsical projects. Week four will culminate with the high-tech of special effects, e-mail and slide shows.

Cost is $50 for residents of the Lincoln Park District and $60 for people from outside the district. Please preregister. A minimum number of participants are required in order to offer this class.

Olympia FFA Alumni chapter news

The Olympia High School FFA Alumni chapter, which draws members from parts of Logan, DeWitt, Woodford, Tazewell and McLean counties, will have its ninth annual pork chop dinner with the trimmings, plus a silent auction with MANY items to be auctioned off, on Jan. 21 at Olympia High School's cafeteria in Stanford.

Are you looking for an inexpensive night of entertainment while supporting a good cause? If the answer is YES, then the group encourages you to attend their fundraising event, as it will be in conjunction with the sophomore and varsity boys basketball games versus their Woodford County neighbor and Corn Belt Conference rival Eureka High School, whose varsity boys basketball team is coached by Tim Meiss.

The dinner and auction will start at approximately 5 p.m. and will go until around 8 p.m. The meal will consist of a pork chop sandwich, a bag of chips, a snack desert and a drink for a small fee per person.

The silent auction will have many different items to bid on, such as farm toys, clothing, gift cards for various seed products, gift cards for various restaurants and shopping centers in the central Illinois area, sports memorabilia, and other items.

This event is the Olympia FFA Alumni chapter's main fundraiser of the year, as members solicit people in the area of the Olympia School District for auction items. In addition, some school FFA chapter members assist the alumni members by helping cook pork chop sandwiches, serve food for the meal and help with the auction by organizing the auction items and collecting payment for the items when they are picked up and purchased.

The money from this event benefits the Olympia FFA Alumni chapter, which in turn donates a part of the money to various FFA members through scholarships and special awards given at the Olympia FFA chapter banquet, along with helping pay most of the cost for some first-year FFA members’ jackets and awarding a special scholarship for $1,000 to a graduating high school senior at Olympia.

For more information about the event, please contact Olympia High School at 309-379-5911.
