Every year this state historic site celebrates the
birthday of Abraham Lincoln, who once practiced law in the original
courthouse that was at the site when he was a lawyer on the 8th
Judicial Circuit, before he became president of the United States.
The original courthouse was purchased by Henry Ford in 1929 and
moved to Dearborn, Mich. The building that stands at the Fifth
Street site today is a replica that was built in 1953 as part of
Lincoln’s centennial celebration.
A full schedule of events will kick off at noon. Bloomington
author Guy Fraker will once again give presentations on Abraham
Lincoln from 2 to 4 p.m. in the upstairs courtroom. Mike Anderson
will be another featured guest, performing throughout the afternoon.
Anderson is one of the most versatile folk performers in the
Midwest, and he will provide an entertaining presentation including
music, storytelling and humor.
Abraham Lincoln interpreter Gary Simpkins will visit with guests,
and John Sutton and friends will provide period music throughout the
afternoon. Postville volunteers will conduct tours and serve
birthday cake and punch.
