Lincoln College announces scholarship recipients

[January 21, 2011]  Lincoln College is announcing the recipients of various scholarships to attend Lincoln College. The funds come from generous donations by some of Lincoln College's closest alumni, parents and friends. These gifts help many deserving students realize their dream of a college education.

The H. Safford & Betty Peacock Foundation Scholarship was established by generous benefactors Saf and Betty Peacock. This year's recipients are:
  • Marliese Devereux, a 2009 graduate of Prairie Ridge High School and the daughter of Robert and Cheryl Devereux of Cary.

  • Xavier Gomez, a graduate of Radulphus College in Willemstad, Curacao, and the son of Francisco and Arelys Gomez of the Netherlands Antilles.

  • Cole Hanna, a 2010 graduate of Pekin High School and the son of Dave Hanna and Luann Powell, both of Pekin.

  • Austin Killgore, a 2010 graduate of South Lake High School and the son of Deena and Joseph Killgore of Michigan.

  • David Lewis, a 2010 graduate of Homewood-Flossmoor High School and the son of Jean and Lee Lewis of Glenwood.

  • Matthew O'Boyle, a 2010 graduate of Marian Catholic High School and the son of Bernard and Cindy O'Boyle of Tinley Park.

  • Alysha Rogers, a 2010 graduate of United Township High School and the daughter of Yvette Henderson of Moline.

  • Kourtnee Smith, a 2009 graduate of Bishop Noll Institute.

  • Aaron Ward, a 2007 graduate of Thornwood High School and the son of Gloria Ward.

  • Stephanie Yarr, a 2009 graduate of Neuqua Valley High School

Exterminator

The Marguarite and Paul Berger Memorial Scholarship is awarded to worthy students in memory of Paul, LC '32, and Marguarite, LC '36. This year's recipients are:

  • Merissa Burnett, a 2009 graduate of Thornton Township High School and the daughter of Deanna and Marvin Burnett of Harvey.

  • Marliese Devereux, a 2009 graduate of Prairie Ridge High School and the daughter of Robert and Cheryl Devereux of Cary.

  • TJ Hall, a 2009 graduate of Pekin Community High School and the son of Tim Hall of Pekin.

  • Brandon McSheffery, a 2008 graduate of Downers Grove North High School and the son of Jim and Mary Kay McSheffery of Downers Grove.

  • Wyatt Wallen, a 2010 graduate of Danville High School and the son of Lisa Reynolds of Danville.

The Lincoln College Faculty and Staff Scholarship was established through the annual employee giving campaign. This year's recipients are:

  • Matthew Hammond, a 2009 graduate of Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School and the son of John and Jackie Hammond of Bradley.

  • Jonah Macke-Booth, a 2010 graduate of Taylorville High School and the son of Dave and Annette Booth of Taylorville.

  • Roy McElroy, a 2009 graduate of Waubonsie Valley High School and the son of Roy and Janet McElroy of Naperville.

  • Reid McIntosh, a 2009 graduate of Lincoln Community High School and the son of Penny and Michael McIntosh of Lincoln.

  • Brandon McSheffery, a 2008 graduate of Downers Grove North High School and the son of Jim and Mary Kay McSheffery of Downers Grove.

  • Steve Penny, a 2010 graduate of Peru High School and the son of Geraldine Gardner of Peru.

  • Wyatt Wallen, a 2010 graduate of Danville High School and the son of Lisa Reynolds of Danville.

  • Chase Carlson-Walker, a 2009 graduate of Franklin Central High School and the son of Tim and Shelley Walker.

  • Jackia Wilson, a 2010 graduate of Walther Lutheran High School and the daughter of Keisha Prince of Chicago.

  • Byron Woodfork, a 2008 graduate of Thornridge High School and the son of Adrienne Woodfork and Mark Wolfe of Dalton.

The R.J. Gossett Theatre Endowed Scholarship was established by LC alumna R. Jean Gossett, LC '47, to encourage students interested in the theatrical arts. This year's recipients are:

  • Kristin Craig, a 2010 graduate of Willowbrook High School and the daughter of Earl and Erica Craig of Hanover Park.

  • Craig Noort, a 2006 graduate of Thornton Fractional South High School and the son of Connie MacDougall.

The Frances Lane Moriearty Memorial Scholarship was established to promote diversity on campus while honoring the memory of their mother by Dr. Pam Moriearty and Scott Moriearty and is awarded to returning student athletes. This year's recipients are:

  • Sierra Davis, a 2009 graduate of Limestone Community High School and the daughter of Joyce Davis.

  • Aaron Ward, a 2007 graduate of Thornwood High School and the son of Gloria Ward.

The Daniel W. Bock Scholarship was established by Lincoln College trustee Daniel Bock. This year's recipient is:

  • Mark Johnson, a 2009 graduate of Joliet Central Township High School and the son of Bobby and Nicole Jones of Joliet.

The Melissa Brassard Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Melissa Brassard, a volleyball player and posthumous member of the LC Class of 2005, and is awarded to a member of the Lady Lynx volleyball team. This year's recipient is:

  • Megan Schaefer, a 2009 graduate of Meridian High School and the daughter of Rick and Laura Moma.

The Arthur and Amanda Bree Memorial Scholarship was established by former trustee Judith Morley in memory of her parents, Arthur, LC '36, and Amanda Bree. This year's recipient is:

  • Iris Packer, a 2010 graduate of Crete-Monee High School and the daughter of Wanda Plott.

The Mr. and Mrs. Edward Buehler Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a deserving freshman student. This year's recipient is:

  • Garrick Goerke, a 2010 graduate of Marengo Community High School and the son of Garrett and Androce Goerke of Union.

The Percy and Grace M. Council Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Mr. Council, a member of the Lincoln College basketball team and Class of 1911. This year's recipient is:

  • Jodie Rains, a 2010 graduate of Waubonsie Valley High School and the daughter of Sandra Blum of Naperville and Sean Hayes of Worth.

The Janet Harris Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of their daughter by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas M. Harris and is awarded to an outstanding art student. This year's recipient is:

  • Tedgie Hamilton, a 2010 graduate of Moline High School and the daughter of Daniela Castillo of Moline.

The Harris-Hodnett Agency Scholarship recipient is:

  • Jordan Cater, a 2009 graduate of Sterling High School and the son of Christine Cater and Mark Cater.

The Nathan Holden Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Nate Holden, a baseball player and posthumous member of the LC Class of 2003, and is awarded to a member of the Lynx baseball team. This year's recipient is:

  • Brad Passini, a 2009 graduate of Putnam County High School and the son of Michael and Jennifer Passini of Standard.

The Jim and Nancy Ireland Music Scholarship was established by generous benefactors Jim and Nancy Ireland and awarded to a student participating in musical activities at LC. This year's recipient is:

  • Edward Johnson, a 2010 graduate of Eastland High School and the son of Daryl and Sheila Johnson.

The Lincoln Kiwanis Club Scholarship recipient is:

  • Mikel Frost, a 2007 graduate of Lincoln Community High School and the son of Tom and Bobbi Frost of Lincoln.

The Logan County Bank Scholarship recipient is:

  • Katherine Williams, a 2009 graduate of St. Charles East High School and the daughter of Don and Jean Williams of St. Charles.

The Mary Finley Goebel Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of "Fin-Fin," a longtime friend of Lincoln College and a member of the LC Class of '41. This year's recipient is:

  • Derek Steiner, a 2010 graduate of Belleville East High School and the son of Craig and Diane Steiner of Swansea.

The Herbert A. Vance Memorial Scholarship was established by his family. Mr. Vance is an emeritus member of Lincoln College's board of trustees. This year's recipient is:

  • Richard Russell, a 2009 graduate of Chapel Hill High School and the son of Mike and Cheryl Russell of Douglasville, Ga.

The Rotary Club of Lincoln Scholarship recipient is:

  • Merissa Burnett, a 2009 graduate of Thornton Township High School and the daughter of Deanna and Marvin Burnett of Harvey.

The Robert E. and Rosemary G. Steinfort Endowed Scholarship was established in 2001 for students from the Mount Pulaski area with a 3.0 GPA. This year's recipient is:

  • Meghan Moore, a 2010 graduate of Mount Pulaski High School and the daughter of Tom and Theresa Moore of Elkhart.

The Robert D. Edwards Family Memorial Scholarship was established by his family. Mr. Edwards was a member of the LC board of trustees. This year's recipient is:

  • Lucas Woolridge, a 2009 graduate of Clinton High School and the son of Rod and Karen Woolridge of Clinton.

The Elvira Hoepfner Fleming Endowed Scholarship was established by Elvira Hoepfner Fleming, LC '36. This year's recipient is:

  • Jalisa Nailon, a 2010 graduate of Tinley Park High School and the daughter of Danette Calloway-Smith and Charles Smith of Markham.

The Warren Gallagher Memorial Scholarship was established by his family. Mr. Gallagher was a generous benefactor and former trustee of Lincoln College. This year's recipient is:

  • Samantha Schneider, a 2010 graduate of Pinckneyville Community High School and the daughter of Bob and Kimbra Schneider.

The Hartsburg State Bank Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a student athlete from Logan County. This year's recipient is:

  • Jordon Rich, a 2010 graduate of Hartsburg-Emden High School and the son of Jon and Rebecca Rich.

The James T. Hickey Endowed Scholarship is awarded in memory of Mr. Hickey, LC '47 and former chairman of the LC board of trustees. This year's recipient is:

  • Ashley Ott, a 2010 graduate of Lincoln Community High School and the daughter of Cary Swan of New Holland and Keith Ott of Effingham.

The Albert and Ruth Kapik Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a local graduate. This year's recipient is:

  • Desirae Lercher, a 2009 graduate of Lincoln Community High School and the daughter of Lisa and Randy Lercher of Lincoln.

The William A. and Katherine A. Komnick and Marjorie Komnick Smith Scholarship was established by Elsie Menzel, LC ' 41, in memory of her parents and sister. This year's recipient is:

  • Brett Freund, a 2010 graduate of Festus High School and the son of Ted and Debbie Freund of Festus, Mo.

The Anna Hayes McCarthy Memorial Scholarship was established by her family in memory of Mrs. McCarthy, LC 1915. This year's recipient is:

  • Harlé Anderson, a 2005 graduate of Indian Creek High School and the daughter of Tim and Shelly Anderson of Lincoln.

The Dr. Jack Means Memorial Scholarship was established by his family and is awarded to a graduate of Illini Central High School. This year's recipient is:

  • Rich Janson, a 2010 graduate of Illini Central High School and the son of Richard Janson of Mason City and Jannette Dean of Creve Coeur.

The Novak/Elder Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a student athlete and was established by June Novak-Bock. This year's recipient is:

  • Stiven Salinas, a 2009 graduate of Miami Killian Senior High and the son of William Salinas of Miami, Fla.

The Edward R. Madigan Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of this distinguished alumnus from the LC Class of '55. This year's recipient is:

  • Theodore Rich, a 2009 graduate of Deerfield High School and the daughter of Adam and Gwen Rich of Deerfield.

The Mark Shannahan Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of their son by Gary and Betty Shannahan and is awarded to a member of the Lynx track or cross country team. This year's recipient is:

  • Jeffrey Wooldridge, a 2009 graduate of Jerseyville Community High School and son of Michael and Dana Woolridge of Jerseyville.

The Dr. John Shute Memorial Scholarship was established by friends and family in memory of Dr. Shute, who was a member of the LC board of trustees. This year's recipient is:

  • Shatyra Holmes, a 2009 graduate of Morgan Park High School and the daughter of Mekketta Holmes of Chicago.

The Maynard M. and Elizabeth Eberle Small Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in literature. This year's recipient is:

  • Derek Steiner, a 2010 graduate of Belleville East High School and the son of Craig and Diane Steiner of Swansea.

The John Smerek Scholarship was established in memory of Mr. Smerek by Mark and Mary Ellen Cummings. This year's recipient is:

  • Tim Yeager, a 2010 graduate of Waterloo High School and the son of Mike and Julie Yeager of Waterloo.

The Dale and Marian Spore Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a student athlete, with preference given to a member of the Lynx golf team. This year's recipient is:

  • Lucas Woolridge, a 2009 graduate of Clinton High School and the son of Rod and Karen Woolridge of Clinton.

The Logan County Voiture 985 Forty & Eight Scholarship is awarded to students with an interest in nursing. This year's recipient is:

  • Ashley Allers, a 2006 graduate of Lincoln Community High School and the daughter of Mike and Tammy Goff of Winona, Minn.

The David and Carol Walters Scholarship is awarded to an out-of-state student athlete. This year's recipient is:

  • Tyler Clingerman, a 2009 graduate of Plainfield High School and the son of Debbie and Dave Clingerman of Plainfield, Ind.

The Dwight Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship is awarded in memory of Mr. Zimmerman, a former member of the LC board of trustees. This year's recipient is:

  • David Lewis, a 2010 graduate of Homewood-Flossmoor High School and the son of Jean and Lee Lewis of Glenwood.

The J.M. Abbott and Associates Scholarship recipient this year is:

  • Shelby Miller, a 2010 graduate of Rock Falls High School and the daughter of Dennis and Brenda Miller of Rock Falls.

The Angela Beltchenko Dance Scholarship was established by Michael and Laura Beltchenko in honor of their daughter and is awarded to a full-time student participating in dance activities. This year's recipient is:

  • Lachrisha Mitchell, a 2009 graduate of Alan B. Shepard High School.

The Linda L. Cooper Memorial Scholarship was established by friends and family in memory of Mrs. Cooper, a former trustee of Lincoln College. This year's recipient is:

  • Kyle Kummer, a 2009 graduate of Addison Trail High School and the son of Elizabeth Mortorelli.

The Commerce Bank Scholarship recipient is:

  • Jonathan DuBose II, a 2010 graduate of Plainfield High School and the son of Michelle and Jonathan DuBose I of Crest Hill.

The R.W. Garrett Insurance Agency Scholarship recipient is:

  • Andrew Watterud, a 2007 graduate of Evolution Academy and the son of Dennis and Amy Watterud of Plano, Texas.

The Puritan Springs Water Scholarship recipient is:

  • Cole Hanna, a 2010 graduate of Pekin High School and the son of Dave Hanna and Luann Powell, both of Pekin.
