[January 31, 2011]  The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a blizzard warning for Logan County, in effect from 6 a.m. Tuesday until noon Wednesday. Snow accumulations of 12 to 18 inches are possible, with higher amounts to the north. Conditions will be made worse by winds in the 25 to 35 mph range, with higher gusts.

The Logan County Emergency Management Agency is recommending that everyone please stay home and avoid routine travel during this dangerous event. At this time, the agency is recommending only emergency travel on Tuesday afternoon and evening. Emergency agencies should be prepared to shelter stranded motorists.

If you have to travel, be sure that you have your emergency kit with you and a full tank of gas. This kit should consist of a blanket, flashlight, water, snacks, small candle in a metal can, matches or lighter, and cell phone.

Also, if you must travel, be sure to notify your family and friends and keep in touch with them.

This is an extremely dangerous storm. Citizens should be prepared for power outages and make sure that their family emergency kits are ready to go. Everyone should monitor the NOAA All Hazards radio network or commercial broadcast stations for further information.

The Logan County EMA also asks anyone with a snowmobile who would like to be a volunteer to help with rescues or emergencies, please contact the office at 217-732-9491.
