[July 12, 2011]  PEKIN -- The Lincoln Chill 14U team participated in the ASA Class B state tournament over the weekend at the Avanti's Dome softball fields in Pekin. The Chill finished second out of 54 teams in the tournament.

"I'm proud of the girls with the way they fought back in the games, played their heart out in the heat and never gave up," said Bryan Carroll, coach of the Lincoln Chill 14U.

The tournament began July 7 with the Chill playing BNGSA Blaze. The Chill beat the Blaze 5-4, and Ashlyn Carroll was the winning pitcher. Mallory Bacon led the team offensively with a home run, two doubles and two RBIs. Other offensive contributors were Kenzie Cooper and Kalli Rogers with two singles each and Brighton Robbins and Hayley Turner each with a single. Hannah D'Andrea had two RBIs, including the game-winner.

In the second game of the state tournament, the Chill met the O'Fallon Tomahawks and beat them by a score of 6-3. Carroll was the winning pitcher and helped herself offensively with a double, single and an RBI. Cooper kept the bat hot with two singles, and Bacon had a double. Erica Wolpert, Heather VanCleve and Michelle Paulus each contributed a single to the victory.

On Saturday, the Chill faced Bureau County Blaze and the Decatur Dragons, earning two more victories. The Chill had to fight back in both games, from deficits of 6-1 and 4-0, to win. Carroll took the win on the mound for both games.

The Chill beat the Blaze in a thriller by a score of 10-9 in international tiebreaker. Lincoln was led by Carroll going 4 of 5 with four RBIs and Robbins going 3 of 4 with an RBI. Bacon hit her second home run of the tournament. Other contributors with singles were Cooper, VanCleve, D'Andrea and Rogers. Paulus hit the game-winning single.

These four victories took the Chill to "championship Sunday." On Sunday, the Chill trailed early to the Minonk Crush 4-0. The girls battled back, but lost 4-2. Robbins was 2 of 4 from the plate with a single and a double.

With this loss, the Chill met the Decatur Dragons for a second time in the tournament, winning this time by a score of 10-8. Carroll took the win and Meg Driver came in for the save. Cooper led the way, going 3 of 4 from the plate. Turner and Wolpert went 2 of 4 with singles. Rogers earned two RBIs, and Robbins, Carroll and Cooper each earned an RBI

That victory over the Dragons took the Lincoln Chill to the championship game, against the Minonk Crush again. Unfortunately, the outcome was the same, as the Chill went down 7-2. Carroll took the loss but tried to help herself with two singles. Bacon led the way with two singles and earning both RBIs of the game. Rogers went 2 of 4 with two singles, while Cooper, Robbins and Paulus each contributed a single.
