MASON
CITY -- The Burgrabe's Eagles (8-4) lost two games to the
Mason City Cougars, getting doubled up in the first game, 16-8, and
losing the nightcap 14-10 in a game that never felt close after the
first inning.

Pitching sealed the fate of the Eagles in both games. The Cougars
had 20 walks and just two hits in the opener on the way to their
16-run total. The second game was an "improvement" with just 16
walks and two hits. By the end of doubleheader, the Eagles had used
eight different pitchers, three of whom had never pitched before,
trying to find someone to throw a strike. At the plate, the Eagles
fared poorly as well in game one, with just three hits, all by
Sydney Johnson, but as the second game became a laugher, the Eagles
managed seven hits, far short of their seasonal average output. The
Eagles again were short-handed, with only eight players available.
Heather Curry (4-1) took the loss in the opener, and Katie
Hunsley (0-1) took the loss in the second game in her pitching
debut.
Curry allowed one hit and recorded one strikeout in the first
game. Grace Skelton came in, followed by Hunsley, who allowed one
hit.
The second game saw Hunsley start; followed by Jazzminn Morecraft,
who allowed one hit and one strikeout; followed by Johnson, who
allowed one hit; and then Danielle Burgrabe and Gracie Hemenway.
