[July 29, 2011]  LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Police and city officials are investigating what prompted an unruly crowd to gather along Hollywood Boulevard, resulting in three arrests.

Los Angeles city attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan said Thursday that authorities are investigating Wednesday's gathering of hundreds of ravers outside Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

The would-be partiers were celebrating the premiere of a film about a notorious series of raves, and numbers swelled further after a popular DJ tweeted that he would be hosting an impromptu block party.

DJ Kaskade's spokesman Alastair Duncan says the musician had done everything he could to notify police about the party and had a permit.

Police Cmdr. Andy Smith says more arrests are possible.
