[June 02, 2011]  Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois announced yesterday that a summer utility assistance program will not be available this year.

The Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity has informed the administrating agencies of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program throughout Illinois that funding for the program is not currently available. However, if the governor's office issues a state of emergency due to severe heat, DCEO will coordinate with the local LIHEAP administrating agencies to implement a summer cooling program.

Any groups or individuals wishing to donate funds that will allow Community Action to purchase fans for clients should contact Kimberly Lucas, LIHEAP assistant coordinator, at 217-732-2159, ext. 241.

Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois is a not-for-profit organization that serves DeWitt, Fulton, Logan, Mason, Menard and Piatt counties with a variety of programs, including LIHEAP. Some of the other programs are Head Start, Early Head Start, Senior Transportation, Senior Meals, Foster Grandparents and Weatherization. For more information, visit www.capcil.org.
