Lincoln Daily News unveils Facebook page

Send a link to a friend

[June 04, 2011]  In January of 2000 when Jim and Jan Youngquist launched their first issue of Lincoln Daily News, they were literally in uncharted territory.

HardwareNo one had ever done an online-only daily newspaper completely independent of a print edition.

In the now 11 years that the publication has been up and running, it has evolved into a very sophisticated piece of work that all of us of LDN are very proud of.

One of the favorite mottoes of Lincoln Daily News is "Taking the publication of LOCAL NEWS kicking and screaming into the 21st century."

The motto is the LDN pledge to continually move forward and offer the readership what they want and need from a reliable news source.

Because of that, the decision has been made to join the world of Facebook.

LDN now has a Facebook page up and running, and every morning within a few minutes after the 8 a.m. roll-over to a new edition, the FB page is updated with links to stories in that morning's publication.

The daily updates on FB are intended not as a replacement for our regular publication, but as a convenient tool to guide readers to the pages of Lincoln Daily News.

We will not report news on FB, but will provide headlines and links to stories so that friends may visit Lincoln Daily News and read all the latest information from Lincoln and Logan County.

We will also use our page on FB to guide readers to noteworthy items other than the daily headlines. Examples of this may be links to new postings in our classifieds, reminders of items listed on our community calendar pages, and we may also choose to highlight from time to time one or more of our advertisers or section sponsors.

Because we are an online publication and always busy working on our next edition, we will not be a constant presence on our Facebook page. We will check the page once or twice per day, will add daily updates in the mornings on a regular basis, and will also add updates during the day if we have new or breaking news to report.

We all know that FB is a great place for friends to interact with one another, and we welcome the opportunity to get to know our readers and have them get to know us.

There are a few things that we respectfully request our friends not do on FB.

FB is not the place for you to send us leads on interesting stories or events. Because we are not constantly on FB, your lead could go several hours without being noted, and we could miss the opportunity to follow up. If you have a piece of news you'd like to share or a lead to an interesting story you think everyone would enjoy, please continue to send that information to our managing editor, Mike Fak. You may email him at ldneditor@lincolndailynews.com

If you have a special event coming up, we encourage you to post that in our community calendar. Go to our Community section in Lincoln Daily News and click on "Submit entry for LDN Calendar of Events." The form is easy to fill out, plus it is viewed by a person on our staff before it is posted, so if your information is unclear, someone will contact you before it is posted.

Lincoln Daily News is humbled by the number of local advertisers we have in our daily editions. We have advertising throughout our publication, ranging from small ads in individual stories to sponsorships of special sections.

Our FB page is not the best place to tell our advertising staff you might be interested in joining our long list of local advertisers. If you are interested in promoting your business in Lincoln Daily News, we encourage you to contact our director of advertising, Karen Hargis. Karen has years of experience in advertising and can help you design an ad that will fit your needs and your budget. You can contact Karen by emailing ads@lincolndailynews.com.

The LDN page on Facebook was activated Wednesday evening, and we are calling Thursday morning our official launch. In just a little over 24 hours we collected 27 "likes." This serves to tell us that there is indeed an interest in having us on FB and that we have some terrific friends out there who don't want to miss out on what our publication has to offer.

We thank all of those who have "liked" us thus far and hope that there are many more of you yet out there who will see the value in having us included in your social network.
