[June 04, 2011]  University of Illinois Extension in Logan County has two upcoming programs in June for local youth. These programs will be presented and taught by trained Master Gardeners.

"Don't Bug Me" is a program for ages 7-10. It will be presented on June 22, 28 and 30 from 1:15 to 2:45 pm. Cost of the program is $15, and advance registration is required. Activities will include making an insect trap, learning insect facts, observing metamorphosis of insects and making insect-related snacks.

A Junior Master Gardener program is being offered to ages 8-12 on June 22, 28 and 30 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Cost of the program is $15, and advance registration is required. The program is modeled after the highly successful Master Gardener program and offers hands-on group and individual activities related to plant growth and development, soils and water, insects and disease, and environmental horticulture and ecology.

Registration for either program must be made in person before June 15 at the Extension office on the northwest corner of the Logan County Fairgrounds. Forms are also available on the website at http://web.extension.illinois.edu/logan/4hyouth.html. For answers to questions, or if you need a reasonable accommodation to participate in these programs, please contact 732-8289.
