Drew Peterson seeks release during appeal

[June 07, 2011]  JOLIET (AP) -- Attorneys for former suburban Chicago police officer Drew Peterson are asking for his release from jail during a pretrial appeal in his murder case.

Peterson remains in jail on $20 million bail in connection with the 2004 murder of Kathleen Savio, who was found dead in a dry bathtub in 2004. Peterson also remains a suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife, 23-year-old Stacy Peterson.

Peterson attorney Joel Brodsky argues his client should be released on electronic monitoring or placed under house arrest because prosecutors launched the appeal delaying his trial.

Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow asked an appellate court to overturn a ruling that limits the amount of so-called hearsay prosecutors can use during a Peterson trial.
