News & Information

Our goal is to provide as much information to our farmers, ranchers, landowners, agribusinesses, non-farm orientated citizens, students, and future email subscribers in the quickest, cheapest, and most efficient way.  Issuing press releases and regular newsletters fulfill our minimal requirements in publicizing information, but as we have learned over the years, it's not enough. The Logan County E-News will be published periodically and used solely to compliment the other avenues of our information dissemination needs.  Subscription is free and the advice is still cheap.  We do not discriminate.  If you know someone that wants to subscribe, share this E-News with them.  If you know someone is not getting their E-News, they should contact our office or check with their Internet Service Provider (ISP) or Email provider and flag the Logan County E-News as "non-spam" or "acceptable".  Every time we issue E-News publications, we receive several returned messages due to the security filters your ISP uses.

Crop Certification Reminder

All crops are required to be certified by July 15th.  Filing an accurate and timely acreage report for all crops and land uses, including failed acreage, can prevent loss of benefits for farm programs (MAL’s, DCP, ACRE, CRP, SURE).

v  CRP participants must annually certify CRP acreage has been maintained

A few things to remember when you certify:

-       Know your planting dates.  These dates are required for certification.

-       Notify us of any acreage discrepancies to keep you compliant with our programs.  Accurate acreage reporting is especially important for ACRE participants.

-       Please allow adequate time for your office visit.  We will be utilizing a brand new Crop Reporting System on the computer this year.

Monsanto - America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education Grant

Eligible farmers can go to www.GrowRuralEducation.com to nominate their local school district to win up to a $25,000 grant from Monsanto. Nomination forms and eligibility information are available at the website above. The deadline to nominate your local school district is June 30, 2011. A criterion for school districts to win the Monsanto Grant is determined by community support, so log on and nominates your school to show your support! Contact your local school administrators for questions on how to complete this process!

ACRE-658 Production Deadline Extended

All 2010 ACRE 658 Production Certification forms must be filed in the office by September 1.

Although the date has been extended, it would be a good idea to take care of this when you visit the office to certify your acres.   Please contact the office if you have any questions regarding how to correctly complete the form.

FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps & Determined Flood Plains

Planning on constructing a new shed, grain bin or a new house?  Have you ever received a letter from your mortgage company informing you that you need to get flood insurance because you are now in a flood zone?  How did they know?  Where do I go to know more about Flood Zone determinations?  The answers can be found on FEMA’s website. I think everyone should be familiar how to view their farm or residence as it relates to the aerial imagery that FEMA uses to illustrate identified flood zones.

You might see the acronym, “LOMC” near the aerial imagery selection.  LOMC (Letter of Map Change) is a letter which reflects an official revision to an effective Flood Insurance Rate Map.   LOMCs are issued in place of the physical revision and republication of the effective map.

LOMCs are available for online viewing using Adobe Acrobat Reader.   When a map panel listing is displayed as a result of a Catalog query, Map Search, or Quick Search you will see a "plus sign" next to the view button if LOMCs exist for that panel. Clicking on the "plus sign" will expand the list of LOMCs for that panel.   You may click the view button next to a LOMC to view it using Adobe Acrobat Reader.
