2nd annual Honest Abe's Barbeque Cook Off on the square Saturday

[June 09, 2011]  The dedication of the Abraham Lincoln hanging flower baskets downtown will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the corner of Kickapoo and Broadway.

Kicking off the "Blue Ribbon Downtown Distinction" awards, the following people and organizations will be recognized in appreciation of their assistance:

The barbecue competition will begin at 10 a.m., with vending by Bonaparte Grill & TJ's, Chicago Street Rental, The Flying Pink Pigs BBQ, S & W Bar B Q Crew, and more. Judging will begin at noon with chicken, continuing with spare ribs at 12:30, a surprise IGA meat challenge to the grillers at 1 p.m. and Boston butt at 1:30. Winners will be announced at 2:30. Trophies will be presented for grand champion, people's choice, and first and second place in each meat category.

Throughout the day, there will be a game section for children, with face painting, water games, sand play and beanbag toss.

Music will be provided by Love/Lust from the Emden area.

Main Street Lincoln is looking for summer volunteers to help with the watering of the hanging baskets.
