Saturday was the perfect day for a barbecue competition. The skies were a bit cloudy and the temperatures a wee bit cool. It made for the perfect day to walk the streets of Lincoln, absorb the wonderful smells of smoked meats on a grill, and indulge in several samples.

The second annual Honest Abe's Barbeque Cook-off wrapped up around 3 p.m. with the awarding of prizes. Winners were determined by a panel of judges who sampled dishes of chicken, spare ribs, fresh pork side and Boston butt. Awards were given for second, first and grand champion overall, plus there was a people's choice award.

Trophies were sponsored by Graue Inc. Charlie Lee of IGA sponsored the grand champion prize money.
