Cameron Seitzer drafted by Tampa Bay Rays

[June 13, 2011]  Cameron Seizer, an Overland Park, Kan., baseball player with roots in Lincoln was drafted last week by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 11th round.

Seitzer is a junior first baseman at Oklahoma University, where he started all 60 games this season, led the Sooners with a .358 batting average, and had four home runs, 17 doubles and 41 RBIs this spring.

He played in the College World Series in the 2010 season and also played with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks in the Cape Cod League. While at Cape Cod, he was named to the all-star team.

Cameron's parents are Kevin and Lisa Seitzer and stepmother Beth Seitzer. He has an older brother, Brandon, and two stepbrothers, Tyler and Nick Graffeo.

His father, Kevin, is well known in this area, having lived in Logan County before attending Eastern Illinois University.

Kevin played major league baseball for 12 years, was twice voted to the MLB all-star team and retired with a lifetime .295 batting average. He is currently the hitting coach for the Kansas City Royals.

Cameron's uncle, Brad Seitzer, played minor league ball for seven years.

Cameron's Lincoln relatives are his grandparents Clifford and Carolyn Seitzer, aunt Denise Costello and cousins John and Alexandra Costello.

Cameron's grandparents have notified us that he has been assigned to the Appalachian League.
