It almost seems surreal inside the Logan County Courthouse dome. Narrow, shaky ladders and narrow walkways lead to the four enormous Seth Thomas clocks that face the four corners of the square.

Outside it was raining, and the drop in normal daylight through the clock faces put the dome into a darkened state.

Members of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors were given a tour inside the dome. The Urbana-based local chapter came to see the Seth Thomas timepieces close-up and to enjoy a day in Lincoln.

Inside, the workings of the dome were explained to them. Unlike their local clock in their county courthouse, the Logan County dome is much larger.

The interest in the dome was obvious.

The dome can get dusty, and it isn't an easy task to wipe it off.

Climbing one narrow ladder into a small room, you will find the mechanism that keeps the four clocks ticking.
