[June 23, 2011]  LE BOURGET, France (AP) -- Airbus says it has signed the largest aircraft order in history, an order for 200 of its fuel efficient A320neo jets from Asian low-cost carrier AirAsia.

AirAsia said Thursday that the order is worth $18.5 billion and is the largest order ever by an airline in terms of number of aircraft involved. Carriers often negotiate discounts on the list prices.

That tops the record set just Wednesday by Airbus with an order for 180 aircraft from Indian carrier IndiGo.

The announcement was made at the Paris Air Show, where Airbus has enjoyed huge success with its fuel-efficient A320neo.
