[June 23, 2011] (AP) The main weather producer in the country Thursday will continue to be a strong storm that will move through the Great Lakes area.

Insurance This system will drag a front across the eastern third of the country, instigating showers and thunderstorms. Some of these thunderstorms may move into the populated areas of New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., in the afternoon and evening. While no significant tornadoes are expected from this system, some of the thunderstorms may produce large hail and damaging winds.

Breezy conditions along with showers are likely in the upper Midwest.

In the West, a low pressure system will approaching the Northwest, producing rain from Washington through the Intermountain West. This low pressure system will also put an end to the heat wave that has gripped California for the past few days. Temperatures will still remain hot, however, in the Southwest and southern portions of California.

The Northeast will rise into the 70s and 80s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 80s, 90s and some 100s. The southern Plains will rise into the 90s and 100s, while the Southwest will see similar temperatures.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a morning low of 12 degrees at Cody, Wyo., to a high of 108 degrees at Palm Springs, Calif.
