new traffic signals are functioning at the intersection of
College Street and Fifth Street Road. Turned on yesterday, the
new signals will take some getting used to by motorists
accustomed to a stop sign on College.

Emergency
crews work around two cars at the site of a collision Friday between an
Amtrak westbound train and a truck on U.S. 95 about four miles south of
Interstate 80 and 70 miles east of Reno, Nev.
The truck driver and one person on the train were killed, said Nevada
Highway Patrol Trooper Dan Lopez. An unknown number of other people
on the train were injured and were being taken by ambulances to the
hospital.

arrives at NBC's 75th anniversary celebration at New York's
Rockefeller Center. Falk, the stage and movie actor who became
identified as the squinty, rumpled detective in "Columbo," died
Thursday at his Beverly Hills, Calif., home. He was
83.

reduced risk of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome).
Statistics reveal that for every 87 deaths from SIDS,
only 3 are breastfed.

Amateur
Patrick Cantlay hits his second shot on the 15th hole of his second
round of the rain-delayed Travelers Championship golf tournament in
Cromwell, Conn., on Friday. Cantlay shot a
course-record 10-under 60, the lowest PGA Tour round ever by an
amateur, to take a four-stroke lead Friday in the Travelers.
