Robert Crowder

[June 25, 2011]  Robert Eugene Crowder, 79, died peacefully Thursday, June 23, 2011, at Decatur Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family, after a short illness.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday at the Kincaid Baptist Church. His funeral will follow at 1 p.m. Monday at the church.

He will be laid to rest beside his wife in Bethany Cemetery.

Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home in Lincoln is handling arrangements.

Mr. Crowder retired from Borden Chemical with over 25 years of service.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Robert was born June 12, 1932, in Bulpitt to Jesse Clifford and Clara Harris Crowder. He married Erma Tyler of Obernsville on June 25, 1954, in Taylorville. They celebrated 55 years of marriage before her death in 2009.

He is survived by his mother-in-law, Eva Tyler of Sullivan; three daughters, Debbie (and husband Kevin) Corso of Tovey, Lisa (and husband Daniel) Fleming of Kincaid and Patty Owens (and companion Butch Garrison) of Tovey; two sons, Bob (and companion Kim Kohl) of Kincaid and Jeff (and companion Vauna Stahl) of Kincaid; grandchildren Timothy Corso, Shannon Corso Girard, Melanie Corso McEntire, Joshua Crowder, Jeremy Peat, Amber Peat Bunner, Brandon Crowder, Christina Peat, Michael Owens and Alisha Owens Snyder, Alexandra Crowder and Kyle Crowder; along with 18 great-grandchildren and his faithful canine companion, Molly.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Crowder, Jessie Crowder and Bill Crowder; one sister, Mary Lou LeClerq; and two sons-in-law, Fritz Peat and Aaron Owens.

Funeral Directors

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who played softball for many years, bowled, fished, hunted and won many washer tournaments. He loved attending St. Louis Cardinals games, and his favorite player was Stan Musial. He was always there to support his grandchildren at their sports events.
