[June 27, 2011]  (AP)  The active weather pattern that moved through the Dakotas on Sunday will shift eastward as low pressure moves through the upper Mississippi Valley on Monday.

HardwareRain showers and thunderstorms are expected to form ahead of this system in the upper Midwest. Additional showers and thunderstorms will continue along a nearly stationary frontal boundary that will reach from the mid-Mississippi Valley through the central Appalachians. A slight risk of severe thunderstorms will continue throughout parts of the Midwest on Monday with threats of damaging winds and hail.

To the south, hot temperatures and dry conditions will continue in the Deep South as high pressure prevails from the Southwest through the lower Mississippi Valley. This will translate into possible fire weather conditions in the Southwest. In addition to heat, a slight risk of severe thunderstorms with damaging wind and hail is expected for the high plains of eastern Colorado and northeastern New Mexico.

In the West, an approaching storm system carrying ample moisture will bring some late evening showers to the Pacific Northwest on Monday. These showers will spread across the region and into northwestern California through Tuesday.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a morning low of 30 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 111 degrees at Guymon, Okla.
