'The Importance of Being Earnest' going high-def

[March 02, 2011]  NEW YORK (AP) -- Oscar Wilde's greatest comedy is going high-def.

The Roundabout Theatre Company's acclaimed production of "The Importance of Being Earnest" will be filmed later this month and broadcast in June to movie theaters and arts centers across the globe.

InsuranceThe production, directed by and starring Brian Bedford, will be filmed live in high-definition during public performances on March 11 and March 12 at the American Airlines Theatre on 42nd Street in New York City.

Producers said Tuesday the Broadway broadcast will be available to viewers in America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and across Europe.

Other shows that have been readied for broadcast include "Fela!" and "Memphis."
