[March 03, 2011]  BUFFALO, N.Y. -- In the first night of competition at the NJCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, the Lincoln College Lynx set five new team records and one new national record.

The women set new records in the 400 medley and 800 free relays. Both previous records had stood for over 10 years. The 400 medley relay (Ashlyn Schleder, Lincoln; Sandra Stopczynska, Warsaw, Poland; Sarah Ochoa, Tinley Park; Paula Carvajal, Bogota, Columbia) broke the school record by over six seconds and took home fourth place in the event. The 800 free relay (Maggie Rea, Parsons, Kan.; Kristina Welke, Homewood; Samantha Schneider, Pinckneyville; Ashlyn Schleder, Lincoln) broke the school record by over 20 seconds. They placed second in the event, edging out Daytona State College. In leading off the 800 free relay, Maggie Rea (Parsons, Kan.) also broke the team record in the 200 free. The previous record was held by Wendy Reed for 12 years.

For the men, Bryce Bohman (Moline) set a new national record in the 100 back with his lead-off leg in the record-setting 400 medley relay. He had set the previous record earlier this season. He also set a new pool record along with his national record. The 400 medley relay (Bryce Bohman, Moline; Chris Canene, Naperville; Gabe Cury, Novo Hamburgo, Brazil; Milton Alberto-Requejo, Buenos Aires, Argentina) set a new team record, which was previously set at the same pool two years ago, and took home third place. In the men's 800 free relay (Richard Russell, Douglasville, Ga.; Shelby Miller, Rock Falls; Austin Payne, Good Hope; Kyle Kummer, Addison), all of the men hit lifetime bests in their swims and took home fourth place in the event.

Coach Jake Sexton said: "If tonight is any indication what the rest of the meet will be like, we are in for some real fast swimming. These swims tonight have put us in a real good position for the rest of the meet, and I look forward to watching the rest of the team. I'm extremely pleased in the direction we are headed in."
