Lincoln College men's basketball wins regional championship 62-61 over Danville

[March 07, 2011]  DANVILLE -- Lincoln College advances to the NJCAA national tournament in Danville March 15-19 after defeating Danville Area Community College in the Region 24 basketball tournament.

Lincoln was able to overcome a eight-point deficit with 10 minutes to go in the first half behind eight straight points by Kiel Turpin, then rally and go up 37-31 at halftime.

However, in the second half, Danville turned up the defensive pressure, holding Lincoln scoreless for almost 10 minutes.

Danville was able to take the lead 60-59 with 40 seconds left in regulation on a layup by Brandon Demmings.

Lincoln had to call a timeout with 30 seconds left, and out of the timeout Tylon Deal found Louie Schonauer in the corner to bury a 3-point shot to give Lincoln a 62-60 advantage.

At the other end, Lincoln fouled Rilwan Bakare, who missed the first free throw and made the second with 15 seconds left to put the score 62-61 Lincoln.

On the inbounds, Danville fouled Schonauer, who missed the front end of a 1-and-1. Danville secured the rebound and called a timeout with 5 seconds left. On the inbounds play, Kiel Turpin was able to switch on a pick-and-roll and blocked a shot to seal the win for the Lynx.

The pairings for the national championship in Danville will come out on Wednesday.
