In 1954 Emil Stahlhut, CEO of ALMH,  threw away the keys to the then-new ALMH, saying that the hospital's doors would never be locked. Dalpoas continued the tradition, taking the keys to the building and throwing them in the trash.

A special ribbon-cut was performed by hospital staff, board members and community leaders.

A second ribbon-cut with hospital managers was also done.

And there had to be a ribbon-cut at the new Springfield Clinic as well.
