[March 14, 2011]  KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) -- Afghan officials say a suicide bomber has killed more than 33 people at an Afghan army recruiting center in the northern province of Kunduz.

InsuranceKunduz Deputy Governor Hamdullah Danishi says the attacker approached on foot and detonated a bomb on Monday afternoon as recruits lined up outside the center. He says at least 42 people were also wounded in the blast.

A doctor at Kunduz hospital says ambulances and private vehicles have been bringing the dead and wounded to the hospital. The doctor, Humayun Khamush, says at least four children were among the dead.

Insurgents have increasingly been targeting Afghan government and military installations in the north this year as international forces have pushed into Taliban strongholds in the south.
