[March 17, 2011]  The annual Community Health Fair will be April 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lincoln Park District's SportsCenter, 1400 Primm Road. Admission is free and everyone is invited to attend. Nonperishable food items will be accepted as donations for local food pantries.

More than 60 organizations will attend and educational displays will be available. Health screenings will also be available, including blood pressure, body fat calculations, pH testing, hearing, pulse oximetry (oxygen level), hemoglobin/A1c for diabetics and cholesterol. Most screenings are free of charge except the hemoglobin, hemoglobin/A1c and cholesterol screenings, which have a small fee.

Free nitrate screenings of well water will be offered by the environmental health division of the Logan County Department of Public Health.

Also, recyclable items will be collected, including print cartridges, container glass, hearing aids, cell phones, pop tabs, plastic bags, eyeglasses, rechargeable batteries and unused, unwanted medications. Confidential document shredding will also be available. Child fingerprinting will be offered too.

The American Red Cross will conduct a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the health fair. First-time donors are welcome.

Peggy's Place will provide healthy food choices for purchase during the fair.
