The
Humane Society of Logan County is providing a dog and cat
food giveaway on Thursday, March 24, for those in need. Food will be
available from 10 a.m. until noon and from 4 to 6 p.m. or while
supplies last. Come to the Humane Society office at 113 S. Sangamon
St. in Lincoln, next to the Blue Dog Inn. |
The Animal Protective League, in
conjunction with the Humane Society of Logan County, is offering a one-day cat
spay and neuter special. On Thursday, April 7, cats can be spayed or neutered
for $25. Call 217-737-4042 for more information. This special is only for one
day, and the number of spots is limited.
Todd Irwin of Beason, a member
of the Chester 4-H, participated in the Illinois 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl on
Saturday, March 5, at the Chateau Hotel and Conference Center in Bloomington.
Thirty-six 4-H members from throughout Illinois participated in the
double-elimination contest that challenges 4-H members' knowledge and quick
recall of information relating to various aspects of dairy cattle management and
dairy products. Each competition round included 12 questions presented
one-on-one followed by 16 toss-up questions with bonus point options. The
contest requires many hours of dedicated learning and a good understanding of
the dairy industry.
Faith Smith, an eighth-grader at Zion Lutheran School in Lincoln, has
been selected as the Zion Lutheran February Student of the Month.
Faith's ZLS activities include volleyball, basketball, choir, chimes choir,
band and plays.
She is a member of the Elkhart Christian Church. Her church and community
activities include youth group, Christmas play, church choir and Illini Elite
Volleyball Club. She most enjoys playing basketball and volleyball.
Faith's parents are Rob Smith and Tina Smith of Elkhart.

The Logan County Genealogical and Historical Society public
meeting will be on Monday, March 21, at 6:30 p.m. at 114 N. Chicago
St., downtown Lincoln. This will be an open meeting for those who
would like help with their family history. Everyone is welcome to
bring their questions. The society would like to help you.
Volunteers will be present to help guide and acquaint you with
research material. They will have access to files from other
counties, states and countries to help you.
