[March 18, 2011]  CENTRALIA -- Lincoln College split a doubleheader Thursday with nonconference foe Kaskaskia Community College.

HardwareLincoln was shut out in the first game. The Devils were able to push across six runs in the first four frames, and that was more than enough to take down Lincoln College 6-0.

The Lynx produced only five hits. Three of those hits were from freshman outfielder Manny Acevedo (Orlando, Fla.).

Miles Quintal (O'Fallon) earned his second loss on the season after tossing three innings and giving up five runs, four of those earned.

In the second game, Lincoln College's Luke Giddens (Cincinnati, Ohio) was handed the ball and earned a no-decision while throwing four quality innings. Steven Sotiropoulos (Belleville) relieved Giddens and received the win in his three innings of work.

The offense for the Lynx exploded for eight runs on 13 hits and won 8-3. All eight runs were pushed across in the top half of the sixth inning. Xavier Gomez (Willemstad, Curacao) led all hitters with three singles. Kenny May (Belleville), Acevedo and Quintal recorded two hits each.

Assistant coach Isaac Cox said: "We did not show the best discipline at the plate today. We found ourselves getting behind in the count and forcing ourselves to take a defensive approach. Fortunately, we came away with one win today against a pretty good ballclub. Learning the pitch sequences at this level with help us out eventually, but we cannot rely on scoring only in one inning. Our pitchers are giving us a chance to win, we just need to find a way to string together multiple-hit innings."

Lincoln College (3-6) will travel to Mattoon next week on Thursday to take on Lakeland Community College.
