Although the number of actual plungers was down somewhat this year over last, the 2011 Polar Plunge was nonetheless a huge success.

Last year the fundraiser brought in just over $33,000, but this year the total came to a whopping $45,682.

The Walmart plungers raised $11,335, which was matched with an additional $11,000 donation from Wal-Mart Stores Inc. making them the No. 1 group in the category for 15-plus members. Second place went to Team Monsanto with $7,987 and third went to Team Curry with $6,722.

The Walmart team was this year's honorary group of plungers and the first to dive into the 40-degree water at Lincoln Lakes.

First in, first out, the group looks a little soggy now...

...and perhaps a little shocked over what 40-degree water actually feels like.

This isn't Hawaii, but City Clerk Denise Martinek with husband Vic following behind still wades in and out with the individuals group.

Team Curry hits the water splashing...

...but wastes no time making their way back out.

County board member Jan Schumacher was part of the group called Chillin 4 A Cause. The group raised $1,120.
